Stop for a minute and think: What is the #1 project that you
need to get done, but have been putting off? Every day you try
to get to it, but other things just seem to catch your attention
first: E-mails to answer, phone calls to return, cleaning, going
through notes, take care of little to do’s on Post-it notes …
What sucks you in and captivates you until you have no time
left?

This is a common phenomenon for most people. These IMPORTANT
things are necessary to do as some point but are not critical or
urgent to do right now. IMPORTANT things usually involve
something a bit more tedious and time consuming in nature. They
are things like filing, billing, writing, follow-up calls,
planning, and marketing. Since there is no immediate pressure to
get them done, they remain in our mind and on our to-do lists as
things we should do sometime. They absorb our energy as we
begrudge the thought of needing to start the project and they
actually eat our time as we subconsciously procrastinate, doing
other little things that feel more rewarding first.

What to do? 1) Realize what strategies you use to procrastinate.
What do you do when you have an IMPORTANT project to accomplish?
What distracts you from working on it? What things usually get
on the to-do list before it? Subconscious procrastination
strategies are little and insignificant tasks that take up
enough time and energy so that we never get to what is really
important. It feels good to check off 10 little things from the
list; however, now there is not enough time for that big
IMPORTANT project, so it waits another day. This waiting creates
stress and the act of procrastination makes us ineffective with

your frog” first. Brian Tracy has a great book, Eat That Frog!1
This book illustrates the basic concept of prioritizing. Tracy
describes the most important task as your “FROG.” He proposes
that if the worst thing you have to do all day is eat a frog,
the rest of the day will be much better. Likewise, if you do the
thing you dislike most and usually avoid first, the rest of your
day will be great. You will find that you have more energy
because you feel charged that you already got “IT” off your
plate. You will have more time, because you are encouraged by
your success and are motivated to do more important things that
really matter. You will be more efficient, because you have a
clear mind without nagging tolerations of things you should be
doing.

How do you “eat your frog”? 1) Identify what is IMPORTANT.
Important things are items that need to be done, but will not
kill you if they are not done immediately. Please note that
important is not the same thing as URGENT. Urgent tasks must be
done IMMEDIATELY. Often people get in a cycle of making
everything urgent. If everything is urgent in your life, one of
two things has happened: you are mislabeling, or (more commonly)
you have let the IMPORTANT projects go too long and they are now
urgent. The problem with always working in URGENT is this
quadrant does not maximize our productivity or give long-term
solutions, just short-term fixes. It might feel good and seem
productive as you run around putting out fires, but internally
this builds stress, confusion and frustration, and will cause
you to feel overwhelmed. In contrast, when you stay on top of
the IMPORTANT projects, you will amazingly have more energy,
more time and be more efficient in dealing with everything else
that comes up. I challenge you to try it out.

2)Do it FIRST. Before you go to bed, pick your frog for the next
day. Then when you get up, before you do anything else on your
to-do list (including urgent things-unless it is a real
emergency), eat your frog. Block time in your schedule for
uninterrupted, focused time. No phone calls, e-mail or talking
until your frog is eaten. Know how much time your frog will take
to eat, so you can consume it before interruptions are
unavoidable. By creating an hour of “no interruption” time, you
will be most focused, productive, and effective in eating your
frog.

Actions: * Make a “to do” list nightly * Prioritize the your “to
dos” * Item #1 is your frog. Compete it before you do any other
projects. * Plan for FIRST THING, uninterrupted time. * Know and
be aware of your personal subconscious procrastination
strategies * Make it your goal to complete the next five top
priorities before moving on to other things on the list.

Heartburn Cure

Those of you reading this article are probably heartburn sufferers and are in search for a heartburn cure.

We will start off by answering what the definition of heartburn is then we will talk about possible cures.

Heartburn despite the root has nothing to do with the heart itself. It is a pain or discomfort that is felt in your chest or sometimes it can be felt in the upper stomach. The burning sensation can also be felt in the middle section of your back. Heartburn can be triggered by the types of meals we eat and the type of posture we sit in. Heartburn is a digestive problem and not an actual heart problem as mentioned above.

What Causes Heartburn you may ask ?

In your stomach you have acid which is used to digest food. In much simpler terms when you eat a meal it passes through your oesophagus which is the tube the carries food to the stomach from your mouth. Once the food is in your stomach it is broken down using this acid. Therefore, when you experience heartburn it’s small amounts of this acid rising from your stomach to your oesophagus . Another word for this action is reflux or acid reflux.

The issue at hand that causes heartburn is when it rises to your oesophagus (your tube that passes food to stomach from neck) there is not protection or stomach lining to prevent the burning from the acid. In your stomach there is protection by your inner stomach lining.

What are some specific causes of heartburn ?

There are many issues that can cause heartburn in an individual.

Smoking can cause heartburn. Because there is a muscle that separates your stomach from your gullet(oesophagus). When you smoke this muscle can be relaxed allowing passage of your stomach acid to your oesophagus.

Being Overweight can be a cause of heartburn. Again because of the extra fat around the stomach it will cause the muscle that blocks your stomach acid to become relaxed and allow passage to your throat area.

If you eat large meals. This can be another cause of heartburn. Your best bet would be to eat much smaller meals so your stomach will not become to full causing your blocking muscle to move out of place allowing acid to pass.

Wearing tight clothing around the waste also causes heartburn.

Also, if you eat large meals right before you go to bed will cause heartburn also.

If you were asked to give a donation to help rebuild the 3rd Temple wouldn’t you give with a full heart and for the sake of the mitzva? Why does Chazal need to tell us that the giving of the money for the mishkan needed to be with such pure intentions?

Rav Henach Leibowitz learns that even when the evil inclination cannot stop us from doing a mitzva he can corrupt our intentions and degrade our service to our Creator.

We need to be constantly on guard that we do not perform the mitzvoth for honor, prestige, or other side motivations. Since we are spending much time and energy to do the mitzvoth anyway, it makes sense that we should work on purifying our motives. One mitzva done with a truly pure heart can upgrade and change the quality of our entire being.

“I’ll just have a little…”

If you are not careful, this little phrase can be an absolute killer for your weight loss plans during this holiday season.

And I’m not just talking about the food.

The hidden danger is in all the alcoholic drinks and cocktails that’s being offered to you. Yes, those party drinks can do more harm other than just getting you intoxicated and embarassingly uninhibited!

Did you know that these drinks contain an incredible number of calories?

In fact, alcohol is the number two most energy-dense food, losing out only to fat. Fat has 9 calories per gram, and alcohol comes in a close second at a whopping 7 calories per gram.

What this means is that each alcoholic drink you consume will cause you to take in an alarmingly high number of calories.

After the heavy meal or when you had too much salty snacks, go drink a big glass of water first to quench your thirst. Water works better for this, and it has zero calories!

China is not merely a haven but a heaven for tourists. It abounds in beauty and beauties, both natural and artificial. When God was creating the earth, he seemed to be in his best and most giving mood as his hands moulded China. He poured his love into the land, filling it with natural beauty - breathtakingly eye-catching mountains in Guangxi Zhuang, the gentle Yangtze that meanders across large parts of the country, bestowing its benevolence on the land; the vast deserts in Xinjiang and wild steppes in the north. Across the country beauty imbues the land with ethereal charm.

What God did well, man tried to better. The beautiful landscape was peppered with even more beautiful buildings and architectural splendour. Smaller rivers and rivulets were linked by ornate arched stone masonry bridges. Mountains and hills were studded with pavilions and other stylistic monuments. And across the vast plains man built a giant wall like a huge necklace.

God paid attention not only to the land but also the people he intended to house there. He gave the women beautiful features and men strong bodies. Chinese women, with their gentle eyes, petite nostrils, slender necks, slim figures and creamy skin look like angels about to pirouette. Chinese men, with their strong shoulders and backs and stout muscular legs look like they can lift the burden of both home and the earth.

The beautiful women became more beautiful as they adorned themselves in the striking Qi Pao’s (for more on Qi Pao’s read ‘Fashion In China - Of Qi Pao’s and Cow’s Breasts’) and the men grew stronger as they worked hard on their fields and enterprises.

Tourists to China can only wonder in amazement at the unique beauty that is China and its people, a beauty made more beautiful by the people’s gentleness, diligence and hard work. And, while they revel in China’s natural and artificial splendours, they can travel cheap by rail, road or air and stay in well-equipped hotels for as little as a hundred to two hundred kuai a night (twelve to twenty-five US dollars). Of course, there are more expensive places to stay as well and travellers with moolah in their pockets can enjoy a more luxurious time there (for more tips on budget hotels etc look out for my future articles).

I have heard many Chinese say, ‘if there is a heaven on earth it is in Hangzhou and Suzhou,’ (two cities in the eastern province of Zhejiang) but if one were to ask me where on earth is there a heaven, I would say, ‘if there is heaven on earth, it is China’.

Preparing a deck design for your backyard is all the
rage as a home improvement project for this summer,
however there is great temptation to build a pallet like
structure that just sits on the ground outside your back
door.

Yes there are many ways to prepare the ground so that an
unconnected deck design structure will sit level to the
ground, for example by using concrete slabs in four
corners… but it’s still just a big pallet sitting on
the ground and the slightest soil erosion below will
result in a rocky deck!.

The only way to make a deck design that you can be proud
of, that will stand the test of storms and wind AND that
you can build onto as years go by, is to prepare firm
LEVEL foundations before you start to build up. A ground level deck design shouldn’t just sit flat on
the ground, its important to raise the deck frame off
the ground to allow for drainage AND to protect the
wood, however, keep in mind that the top level of your
deck should not be higher than the entrance to your home
- so that the rain doesn’t run off your deck design and
through your back door.

The importance of anchoring your deck design at the very
start of your project cannot be over emphasized and are
an essential requirement for:

• Complying with planning permits for your area.
  
  
• Hopefully improving the value of your home.
  
  
• Quality workmanship will improve the usefulness of
  spaces in and around your home.
  
  
• Adding value to the time you spent doing the work -
  it’s much more worthwhile when the job is done
  properly.
  
  
• Allowing you to extend your decking later - for
  example if you want to add an extension for a BBQ area
  or a step up to encompass your new hot tub with deck
  surround…
  
  

Your First Step in preparing the ground for your deck
design foundations will be to find out where any
underground pipes extend out into your backyard, you
don’t want to dig into any electrical or water pipes of
any sort.

Your second step, (with the details from step one in
your posession) should be to apply for a building
permit and benefit from their sound advice regarding
deck design in your area. There is no guarantee, but if
your deck is going to add any value to your home you
must have your paperwork regarding the proper building
permits in order.

Once your permit comes through you will have permission
to create an anchor ledger at the side of your home to
which you can connect your deck design using masonry
anchors and you will know where you can dig to place
your concrete footings where your post anchors go.

Get all these initial components nice and level and
firmly placed and it’s plain sailing for the rest of
your deck design construction.

What magazine should you get for your kids that they can enjoy the entire year? Like most kids, mine love nature. So after looking into things, I found that Ranger Rick Magazine might be areally good choice. The number one rated nature magazine for kids, Ranger Rick Magazine has garnered many awards. In addition, it is affordable and fun.

Dating back to 1988, Ranger Rick Magazine has received many awards and honors for their work as a nature magazine aimed at kids. In 1988 the magazine took home the EdPress Golden Lamp Award as the best overall educational magazine. In 1991, Ranger Rick Magazine was recognized as a National Magazine Award finalize for their special issue on frogs.
