Domino Harvey (August 7, 1969 - June 27, 2005) was a British-born former model turned Los Angeles bounty hunter, notable within that field for being female, rebellious, and from a privileged background.

The daughter of Lithuanian Jewish actor Laurence Harvey and his third wife and widow, English supermodel Paulene Stone, she was reportedly named after Bond girl Domino Derval from the movie Thunderball (The character’s real name was Dominique, though she was called Domino).

Harvey claimed that she had initially followed her mother’s footsteps as a Ford model before turning to more dangerous careers, but her employment with the agency has not been confirmed. She did run a London nightclub, worked as a San Diego ranch hand, volunteered with the Boulevard Fire & Rescue company near the Mexican border and, eventually, started bounty hunting.

In and out of drug rehabilitation for years, on May 4, 2005, she was arrested for allegedly dealing methamphetamines. She was awaiting trial and under house arrest at the time of her death. She would have faced up to ten years in jail if she had been convicted.

On September 3, the Los Angeles County coroner reported that she had died from an accidental overdose of fentanyl. The report said Harvey died June 27 from ‘acute fentanyl toxicity.’ Fentanyl is a painkiller 80 times more potent than morphine.

Domino’s mother was a Vogue cover girl who embodied Swinging London in the 1960s.

Laurence Harvey died of stomach cancer in 1973, when Domino was 4. He left a sizable inheritance, ensuring that she would be financially well off. It did not fill the void created by her father’s death. By her teens, Harvey had been kicked out of four elite boarding schools.

At 16, she settled down at the Dartington Hall School in southwestern England and cultivated a skill that would prove useful later. “I spent my time making canoes and studying martial arts,” she told London’s Mail on Sunday newspaper in 1994. “It was really relaxed.”

In the early ’80s, her mother married Peter Morton, founder of the Hard Rock Café and Hotel chain, and moved to Los Angeles. Harvey, a teenager at the time, stayed behind, moving into an apartment in London’s Notting Hill Gate neighborhood.

A mythology grew up that like her mother, Domino was a model and that, unlike her mother, she had turned her back on the glamour of the runway for a fringe existence. But according to several family members and friends, Harvey never worked as a model.

She did show an entrepreneurial spirit, designing a funky clothing line and selling it at the Kensington Market. “She also ran one of the first clubs in London to do with the dance music scene,” said Michael John Galvin, a British attorney who was a friend of Harvey from her London days and now lives in L.A.

Even then she was battling drug addiction. At 17, she visited her uncle and aunt in Israel, seeking to get to know members of her father’s family. While there, she sneaked away to score drugs, recalled Nachshon Sneh, an Israeli cousin.

Should I be smoking? Probably not. Is smoking doing me any damage? Most certainly it is. It does not require a genius or endless sets of research papers to know that inhaling smoke which contains countless chemicals at high temperature into very delicate lungs, is of no benefit whatsoever and is going to be positively harmful. On top of all that it is becoming increasingly expensive. So why do it?

Is it harmful to other people? We have been inundated with statistics which show that passive smoking is harmful. I have one little concern as to how they gather these statistics. Consider how you would go about it? Would you simply rely on people’s response to questions? How exactly are causal links established when no proper scientific studies have been carried out..
To determine the effects of passive smoking you would first have to consider all the other air pollutants that people are exposed to in the course of their normal daily lives. Traffic fumes, aerosols, bonfires, pollen, dust, and the list goes on and is very extensive. Smoke from tobacco is just one of the pollutants we are exposed to. Then you take several thousand individuals of similar ages, height, and weight distributed evenly between the sexes. In your first test group you have several hundred of these you expose to all the possible pollutants; the second group are exposed to all bar one; the third group are exposed to all bar a different one and so on. Then you have a second trial in which one group are exposed to all, a second group are exposed to none and then a series of other groups are exposed to only one of the pollutants. You then follow their medical histories over a period of several years.

Impossible to carry out of course so we have to rely on data which has been collected from questionnaires and autopsies and apocryphal stories.
How many people contract lung cancer who have never smoked and never been exposed to smoke? We are never supplied with this figure because that has not been of interest to any of our researchers. In discussions statistics are bandied about as if they are absolute and the definitive truth. When in fact they are simply one persons interpretation of a set of data. How good that interpretation is depends upon how the data was collected and we are never told that.

I am not suggesting that smoking or passive smoking is not harmful but sitting in traffic jams cannot be too good for you either. I just wish that the health lobby would stop trying to shove their own agenda down my throat all the time because this then gives the politicians an excuse to interfere in our daily lives all the more with laws telling us what we cannot and can do, and quite frankly I am fed up with their constant preaching and interfering. It would seem that it has become a replacement for religion, but instead of hell fire and damnation awaiting a transgressor of fairly basic rules we now have fines and political preaching. I use smoking as one example but there are numerous others such as obesity which could have been used. In answer to the question why do I smoke the answer is simple, I am an addict, I enjoy it, and I object to other people telling me I shouldn’t be doing it.

If you enjoy heading out on the open sea for a day of saltwater fishing that includes huge fish and heavy tackle, you will need a heavy boat that is dependable and can be relied on in all situations and weather. Anything less than a cuddy cabin or center console that’s equipped with either twin or single outboard motors will not fit the bill. The high end of an offshore saltwater boat is a bluewater or convertible that comes complete with luxury quarters and elaborate salons. These boats should be equipped with inboard diesel engines that have maximum power.

Inshore Saltwater Boats
If you’re planning to fish for tarpin, bonefish, trout and snook or redfish on tropical flats, a light boat will take you a long way. This type of boat should always be less than a 25-footer and powered by a single outboard motor. The best type of vessel for inshore saltwater fishing is a basic bay boat or flat boat. Both types of boats offer a spacious deck for casting and float well in shallow water.

Float Tubes
Float tubes are devices that allow fly anglers who don’t own a boat easy access to get out onto the water. They are excellent for fishing ponds, lakes and mountain streams. Essentially a float tube is a floatation device that is equipped with a seat. The angler sits in the seat while wearing fins and kicks his way around while partially submerged. Fly fishing from float tubes can be difficult, especially for those who are using them for the first time. It definitely takes time to hone your fly casting skills from a float tube.

There are two basic types of float tubes - traditional and pontoon. Traditional float tubes are usually round and have an opening in the front or middle. Basically, these are an inner tube with built-in features for fly fishing. These float tubes can take a lot of time to maneuver because they are round in shape and cause a lot of water resistance.

The newer pontoon float tubes are much easier to use. These are equipped with two pontoons, or air chambers, one on each side of the fisherman. Pontoon float tubes have less water resistance and offer far less drag than traditional ones because the pontoons are V-shaped and move through the water almost effortlessly.

If you are thinking of purchasing a fishing boat, shop around, talk to anglers who own their own boats and do your research to help you decide which type of boat you’d like to have. As contact lenses have developed over the years, their
design has gone from hard to soft, allowing more comfort
and ease of use for contact lens wearers. Most recently, soft
lenses are the rage, since they are easy on the eye, and can
even be purchased in the disposable variety so you can
throw them away and not even have to clean them. Prior to
the development of today’s soft lenses, most people used to
wear Rigid Gas Permeable Lenses, sometime referred to as
“RGP” lenses. Interestingly enough, you may have noticed
that RGP lenses are still around, and are very popular. Not
everybody has left Rigid Gas Permeable lenses to switch to
soft contacts. The best way to understand why this is, and
why you might want to consider RGP lenses, is to take a
look at the upside and downside of RGP contacts.

DOWNSIDE:

Comfort - RGP lenses aren’t quite as comfortable as soft
lenses for obvious reasons. Soft lenses are soft.

Adjustment Time - Because RGP lenses are rigid, your eye
must adjust to their shape when you first start wearing
them. It takes a little longer to adjust to them, as opposed to
soft lenses which immediately mold to the shape of your
eye. Also, if you quit wearing your RGPs for awhile, you
will need time to re-adjust when you start again.

Convenience - RGP lenses will last longer. Although this is
good news, it could be seen as a downside for people who
like the convenience of throwing away a disposable lens
and not having to remove and clean it each night.

UPSIDE:

Less Expensive/Longer Lasting - Because Rigid Gas
Permeable lenses are sturdier and last longer, the cost per
day of wear time is less expensive than with soft contacts,
which are not as durable, and will break or wear out faster.

Better Visual Acuity - RGP lenses, being rigid, will hold
their shape better than soft contacts which are more
flexible. This usually means that you will have better visual
acuity with RGP lenses, and you won’t experience slight
vision fluctuations in your vision throughout the day like
you might with soft lenses. This can be extremely
important if you are in a profession or activity that requires
extremely good vision.

Better Bifocal Choices - Another advantage of Rigid Gas
Permeable lenses is that their firmness allows for a wider
variety of bifocal features to be designed into RGP lenses,
so they offer more choices for people who need a bifocal
lens.

Eye Health - Rigid Gas Permeable lenses are generally
healthier for your eyes. Their design makes them more
resistant to bacteria than standard soft contacts. They allow
more oxygen to reach the eye, and they are more resistant
to absorbing foreign elements like soaps and perfumes that
can be harmful or irritating to your eyes.

Patients With Misshapen Corneas - For people who have a
condition called “keratoconus” (a cone-shaped cornea),
RGP lenses are a necessity. Their rigid structure allows
them to be custom-made to fit an unusually shaped cornea,
which can’t be done with a soft lens.

By understanding the upside and downside of Rigid Gas
Permeable Lenses, you can quickly see that there are lots of
reasons some people stick with RGP lenses and haven’t
made the switch to soft. As a matter of fact, the pros of
RGP tend to outweigh the cons. If you’re trying to decide
which type of lens is best for you, you will definitely want
to consider RGPs when you talk to your doctor. If you
decide to go with them, they may take a little “getting used
to”, but you’ll have the satisfaction of seeing better, paying
less, and knowing that you’ve chosen the much healthier
option for your eyes.

Take time to think about what you want from your property. Is it purely for investment? or will you be using it yourself? when do you want to resell it? Do you see it as a long term or short term option? Very soon you will get a much clearer idea of the style and type of property purchase that is right for you.

Make sure you can afford it. Make an appointment to speak to your financial advisor before house hunting. Knowing your limits will prevent impulse buys that will blow your budget.

No matter what the Developer says, use an independant bilingual Lawyer. Good legal advice is worth every penny and avoids costly mistakes. If you dont plan to visit your property, make sure the solicitor offers a power of attorney service to sign necessary legal documents on your behalf, with your prior approval.

Know the closing costs. Every country imposes different taxes to the process of buying and selling property. Make sure you are fully aware of these. In some countries these can add up to 10 - 12 % of the property value.

Check the documentation yourself. Your lawyer probably wasn’t there when you negotiated your property purchase. If you managed to get some extras thrown in with the deal, make sure they’re in the contract or management agreement and let your solicitor know what they are.

If possible, look at other developments by the same developer. Were they completed on time? What was the build quality like? If the property is investment orientated, is there a track history of good rental performance with this developers properties?

Finally, use your common sense. If a deal looks too good to be true, or is heavily weighed in your favour, theres a reason for that, and its not always your shrewd bargaining skills. Take extra care, take extra advice, and don’t just look at the price.
