More and more webmasters are building websites with publicly available content (data feeds, news feeds, articles). This results in websites with duplicate content on the Internet. In cases of websites build on news feeds or data feeds you can even find websites that match each other 100% (except for the design). Several copies of the same content in a search engine does not really do any good and so Google apparently decided to weed out some of this duplicate content to be able to deliver cleaner and better search results.

Plain copies of websites were hit hardest. If a webmaster was publishing the exact same content on more than one domain, all domains in question were eventually removed from Google’s index. Many websites based on affiliate programs suddenly took a big hit in loss of traffic from Google.com. Shortly after this started some webmaster forums saw the same complaints and stories again and if 1 + 1 was put together a clear picture of the situation was available: a duplicate content filter was applied.

Duplicate content is not always bad and will always exist in one way or the other. News websites are the best example of duplicate content. Nobody expects those to be dropped from Google’s index.

So, how can webmasters avoid the duplicate content filter? There are quite a few things webmasters can do when using duplicate content of any sort and still create unique pages and content from it. Let’s see some of these options explained here.

1) Unique content on pages with duplicate content.

On pages where duplicate content is being used, unique content should be added. I do not mean like just a few different words or a link/navigation menu. If you (the webmaster) can add 15% - 30% unique content to pages where you display duplicate content the overall ratio of duplicate content compared to the overall content of that page goes down. This will reduce the risk of having a page flagged as duplicate content.

2) Randomization of content

Ever seen those “Quote of the Day” thingies on some websites? It adds a random quote of the day to a page at any given time. Every time you come back the page will look different. Those scripts can be used for many more things than just displaying a quote of the day with just a few code changes. With some creativity a webmaster can use such a script to create the impression pages are always updated and always different. This can be a great tool to prevent Google to apply the duplicate content filter.

3) Unique content

Yes, unique content is still king. But sometimes you just cannot work around using duplicate content at all. That is alright. But how about adding unique content to your website, too. If the overall ratio of unique content and duplicate content is well-balanced chances that the duplicate content filter applies to your website are much lower. I personally recommend that a website has at least 30% of unique content to offer (I admit - I am sometimes having difficulties myself to reach that level but I try).

Will this guarantee that your website stays in Google’s index? I don’t know. To be most successful a website should be completely unique. Unique content is what draws visitors to a website. Everything else can be found somewhere else, too and visitors have no reason to just visit one particular website if they can get the same thing somewhere else.

We have done this ourselves. We had a “special” birthday in the family and wanted to vacation with our grown-up children to celebrate. With careful consideration for what we might like to do, where we might like to go, and to provide enough variety in eating (the kids are finicky eaters) and activities to keep everyone happy, a cruise seemed to best fit the bill.

As it turned out, we had a total of 12 people coming on our family vacation cruise ranging in age from 26 to 85. Pleasing this wide of a range of ages can prove daunting. You will notice that I started by saying to choose the right cruise line. This - believe it or not - can make or break your family vacation. There are cruise lines that cater to specific groups or types of cruise passenger. It’s important to identify what type of group your family fits into.

As mentioned before, our group required variety. Our twenty-something kids need to have a festive, party atmosphere. Our parents required something somewhat more sophisticated without being stuffy or pretentious. Many of the “contemporary” cruise lines offer much of this variety, and only on the larger cruise ships. We quickly were able to narrow our search to three cruise lines.

In looking at the cruise line and cruise ship, we carefully scanned over the amenities and listed activities for the specific ships. All three had a good variety. Each had specific high spots and potential low spots. Even with our diverse group, we felt that all three cruise lines could offer us a great family vacation cruise experience.

Next was the itinerary - or destinations where the individual cruises stopped. These ports-of-call make cruises an extra special vacation value. Of course, we had a set date that we wanted to be away, so we looked at the available itineraries for the three cruise lines, including which ships sailed those itineraries. We chose the southern Caribbean for our cruise.

All three cruise lines offered a southern Caribbean cruise at the time we wanted to cruise. Each offered different ports-of-call which allowed us to narrow our search. We next looked at the cost of the cruise vacation and what potential discounts/special offers we might receive by booking 6 staterooms.

Now we had all of the information required to make our decision. We first narrowed our search to three cruise lines. We chose a cruise locale and looked at the available cruise ships in those cruise lines sailing on our specified date. Lastly, we compared pricing.

As it turned out, we chose the middle priced cruise (before discounts). This choice had a variety of amenities to cater to our “kids”. Our parents would have a level of sophisticated elegance. And we would have piece of mind in knowing that we had done “due diligence” in choosing the best cruise for our family vcation.

It is often recommended that you do not use any natural or pure Carnauba automotive waxes as they will tend to yellow the gel coat over time and not properly seal the boat from environmental marine contaminants, however we do not always agree with this. It is not recommended that you use any paste waxes except we do strongly recommend using 3M Ultra Performance, which is a paste wax. Do not use any acrylics, nor any Teflon products (Teflon yellows over time) as most of these products are gimmicks and they can be difficult to remove or properly apply.

Some, but not all silicones can tend to burn gel coats, which can heat up and cause quicker oxidation because it magnifies the suns rays on the surface. By hand or orbital polish, apply Meguiar’s #55 premium marine sealant and let set up for at least 15 minutes or use Blue Magnum 80% Carnauba. It is a toss up, which will last longer, but both claim longevity in actual tests. To see if the sealant is ready to be removed take your finger in a well-lit area across the sealed area and if it streaks, then it is not properly set up yet. If it does not streak you may proceed and remove the sealant as necessary.

When you are doing the above procedures in dock or in slip, and you are using electrical cords with your machine polisher be extremely careful when working around water. You’ll need to keep the cord out of water if at all possible. Be extra cautious when working on a boat in its slip. Electrocution is no fun, ask anyone on death row.

Super 1000W by Production is a good choice for a spray on sealant. You spray it on, let it sit for ten to fifteen minutes and gently wipe residual. It adds gloss, depth and protection. I stay at home with my little girls, and I am trying to find some way to make money while I stay at home so that money won’t be quite so tight. Can anyone tell me how I can make quick money online? I don’t have a lot of time to spend working during the day since I am always chasing after the kids.
