Four Reasons Everyone Should Use A Treadmill In Their Exercise Regimen

Everyone wants to be fit and healthy. For many people walking has become the exercise of choice. Treadmills offer the ability to exercise despite bad weather conditions. They offer a low impact cardiovascular workout while also being an easy exercise. There are many reasons to include treadmill walking in your workout…

Reason#1 — Treadmills are used indoors. This eliminates the need to abandon a workout because the weather outside is not ideal. This also allows for you to be able to exercise anytime you want.

Reason#2 — Treadmills give a low impact, cardiovascular workout. Unlike other exercises that give you a good cardiovascular workout, the treadmill does it with no impact on your joints or spine. This is especially nice for someone concerned about a pre-existing health issue.

Reason#3 — Treadmills have been around for years. This means treadmills are not some fad that will go out of style in a year or two. Walking is a natural, easy workout that is known for its great health benefits. If you invest in a treadmill you will be putting money into something that will help improve your health and is proven to work.

Reason#4 — Treadmills offer programmable options. These options allow you to vary your workout just as you would outside. You can change the speed or incline to produce a workout that is best for your needs. This also makes it great for beginners because they can start slow and increase over time.

These are just four of the great reasons to use a treadmill. You will find it is an easy workout to stick with because there is nothing strenuous about it, it is easy to do and you can watch television or read a book while doing it. Treadmills are not a here today, gone tomorrow fad that you will tire of quickly, but instead is a long lasting staple in your health’s future.

NATURE’S MIRACLE PLANT

I still remember 25 years ago, when my manicurist introduced me to Forever Living and some of their products: Aloe Vera Gel, Aloe Vera Gelly and Aloe Activator. This was my first introduction to commercially produced aloe vera products that worked. It came from a small company in Arizona, headed by a charismatic entrepreneur who had the integrity to insist on high quality products and excellent production methods. I tried the products, and from the first use I found consistent, predictable results. Aloe vera has since been a mainstream product in my chiropractic clinic, which operates on a “money-back” guarantee - if you are dissatisfied with any of our products or services, you will get your money back. Forever Living’s aloe vera has fit beautifully with our philosophy.

I’d like to focus on aloe’s benefits in supporting healthy joint function, because it has been a hot topic in the news recently. Products like aspirin and ibuprofen can ease swollen joints and improve mobility, yet they may cause stomach upsets, peptic ulcers and gastrointestinal bleeding. Many of our patients come to my clinic looking for another option because of negative side effects they have experienced from such products. Aloe vera is an integral part in our approach to supporting healthy joint function. Aloe vera is rich in saponins - glycosides which are widely distributed in the plant world and have been shown to be helpful in increasing mobility. There is evidence that saponins block certain enzymes in the body which tend to limit movement. Forever Living’s Aloe Vera Gel continues to be the leading product in our practice. Many clients who are unfamiliar with the beneficial properties of aloe vera ask: “How do you know it works?” I just tell them:

“25 years of money-back guarantees in my clinic (we encourage anyone who doesn’t get the results they desire to try it for three months and return the empty bottles for a full refund), company sales of 2 (+) billion dollars per year, and personal returns of less than of 1%. If that isn’t proof of good results, then show me any other business that can make that claim!”

I wish you all “good luck” as you assist others in achieving a better, stronger lifestyle, and I hope to see all of you in Las Vegas!

What the heck is BOSU?

What in the World Is BOSU?

You may have seen them in the gym: half of a large rubber ball that’s flat on one side. They’re often blue in color and look like a gigantic outtie belly button. “What are those things?” you wonder. Well they’re BOSU balls (or balance trainers). It’s the latest rave to hit fitness centers across America.

BOSU is an acronym that stands for “Both Sides Up”. You can use the balls, also referred to as trainers, or balance trainers, on either side. Whether the rounded bouncy dome part is up or the flat 25 inch platform side is up, you’ll get different types of balance challenges.

This cross-training fitness invention has its origins in the field of medicine, balance, functional and sports specific training. It offers a different means to make exercise more appealing and effective for average people, fitness fanatics and highly trained athletes.

So what do you do with it? You can walk, run, step, hop, jump and leap on the BOSU trainer. You can work it at an easy steady rate-pace that can be maintained for long periods or push the intensity with anaerobic intervals. Or do some stretching on it. Active stretches use the muscles of the body to move a body part whereas passive stretching uses gravity or an outside force to put stretch-tension on the target muscle(s). While standing or kneeling on the dome, you can move the upper body lower, higher, to the sides or by reaching for and picking up cards from various locations on the floor, or by touching and/or relocating cones that have been placed in close proximity to the dome. It’s great for working your trunk too. Maintaining spinal alignment is important to low back health and sports performance.

Many sports teams use BOSU training too. Says Bennie Wylie, Assistant Strength Coach of the Dallas Cowboys “I implement the BOSU trainer during our off-season program for core strength training and rehabilitation of ankle and knee problems. It is a great piece of equipment and gives us an important extra dimension to our overall fitness program. Almost all of the players use the BOSU trainer in some fashion on a regular basis.”

So the next time you overhear a conversation in the grocery store or your friend tells you that she’s going to the 5:30 p.m. BOSU class at the Y, you’ll know what they’re talking about. Better yet, give it a try yourself!

Winsor Pilates Can Be Very Effective For Weight Loss

Copyright 2006 Dean Shainin

If you’re seriously interested in knowing about weight loss, you need to think beyond the basics. This informative article takes a closer look at things you need to know about weight loss.

Winsor Pilates has gone all the rage in today’s ever changing market for the best weight Loss programs, and so far, it has received good reviews both from users and professional analysts. But for someone, who just got introduced to this form of the ever famous exercise regimen, one cannot resist to ask, what is it? How can it help me?

Reviewers say that Winsor Pilates is best for weight loss, fat burning, mental conditioning, and like its namesake, it offers better health through exercise. You can get Winsor Pilates in a DVD, and claims when used 3 days a week can produce results in as little as a month. This is a rather big claim considering the weight loss programs available to us today. But according to most users, Winsor Pilates, does work, with extra effects to boot.

Are Winsor Pilates Right For Me and Where Did This System Come From?

Winsor Pilates is a low intensity exercise that burns a lot of calories, because it is low intensity, it can be done by almost anyone in almost any condition. Joseph Pilates, first invented the Pilates method, and focused on breathing and stretching in slow paced movements. Winsor Pilates is a derivation of the Pilates that Joseph Pilates invented, made by Mari Winsor. It aims to train the “core” or the muscles in the abdomen, back and buttocks. It says that by strengthening your core, you get aside from physical fitness, mental clarity which allows the mind to work efficiently with the body.

Mari Winsor, the inventor of Winsor Pilates is 54 years old, with the physique of a 20 year old. Due to the Winsor Pilates System, her body is lean and flexible, which we cannot say for a lot of people her age.

I trust that what you’ve read so far has been informative. The following section should go a long way toward clearing up any uncertainty that may remain with this type of effective weight loss program.

Mari Winsor made Winsor Pilates for the use of the majority. It makes use of the Pilates method, modified into a low intensity exercise which as said earlier can be done by most people, even in the frailest of health stature. This makes it accessible as well as useful for anyone, even people of poor health, thus improving their health without the fancy requirements of other methods.

Beyond Weight Loss with Winsor Pilates

Some people even say the Winsor Pilates can be used for rehabilitation, although this is true, it is hardly very easy for a person with broken bones to work out only in front of a DVD. If however, someone wants to use it for rehabilitation, it should be under the supervision of a certified Pilates instructor. This is because, for rehabilitation, Pilates has to be precisely observed, no amount of DVD’s can replace an instructor, an instructor assures that you execute the moves correctly, and that you are not damaging or hurting yourself doing it, in addition, they are a good source of answers for most of the questions you’ll have about Pilates. Plus it won’t hurt to consult your doctor either, before using Pilates for rehabilitation.

Should You Use Winsor Pilates If You Are Ill or Pregnant?

For pregnant women however, Mari Winsor did not, modify the Pilates method to accommodate the pregnant women, so care must be taken. During the third trimester, Pilates done lying down should be avoided; this could damage the blood flow to the baby.

All in all, aside from pregnant women and extremely ill people, Winsor Pilates is for everyone interested in weight loss. It provides an exercise that is easy on the joints muscles and bones. After the increased focus on abdominal muscles and all in one gym, Winsor is definitely a good replacement for methods that don’t work.

There’s a lot to understand about weight loss. We were able to provide you with some of the facts above, but there is still plenty more to write about in subsequent articles.

Stop kidding - No home gyms allowed

Home Gyms

Not long ago my wife went shopping for home gyms. No not for her but of all people for me. I was devastated. The idea, me exercise? I sit and work at the computer all day and that’s plenty of exercising for me. I told her we didn’t have room and the (2) extra bedrooms were for visitors besides.

Nevertheless off she went and darned if a couple weeks later she drug one home. A home gym - of all things!

My wife was telling me that the convenience of privacy at home, no driving and time efficiencies is what I really would enjoy. Humbug! She also discussed her goals for me and frankly I was impressed. Lose 20 lbs or else! Else what? Rabbit salads and vinegar for life.

She also told me that in making her decision she considered our budget, room available, weight based or rubber band machines and relative versatility. I told how appreciative I was of here thoughtfulness.

She assured me I wouldn’t need the motivation that a real gym provides, nor would we miss the room lost, and that putting the thing together would be a blast.

Also, just because I wasn’t surrounded by other hard exercising chargers my tendency to be lazy and slack off wouldn’t be a factor.

Thus far, the only thing that’s lost weight is my wallet but I’m assured perseverance would prevail.

Before starting that home exercising program I suggest seeing your doctor to check on your health condition and your brain because when you’re grand kids see you trying to do your thing they’ll think you lost your mind.

Having home gyms is probably a pretty good idea and I for one am all for it. My grandson looks so fit now he can’t keep the girls away from him. Boy, am I glad I have a grandson.

No Time For Exercise? Try This!

“Fitness” is an elusive term covering a vast array of attributes: flexibility, cardiovascular endurance, muscular endurance, strength, power, balance, coordination, body-fat percentage and more. While its generally accepted that multiple 30-60 minute sessions per week are optimal for producing results, the truth is that it’s possible to do a great amount in far less time.

EVERYONE has five minutes a day…the only question is, can anything really useful be done in just 300 seconds?

The answer is a resounding “yes”, but we need choose our exercises carefully. If there is such a limited amount of time, the best choice is to pick the most important muscle group. Chest? Back? Shoulders? Legs? All wrong. The abdominals are the most important muscles in the body. In no particular order, they:

1) Protect the low back.

2) Are vital to sports performance, transferring power from the lower to upper body.

3) Aid digestion, and massage the internal organs.

4) Are important for proper, healthy sexual function.

5) Are “the window of health”–we judge fitness and health more rapidly with a glimpse at the waistline than any other single indication.

6) Are vital for posture, which increases physical energy and mood.

7) Are the linchpin of your entire fitness program. You’ve never seen someone with toned abdominal muscles and flabby arms and legs, have you? The reverse is not true.

8) Are the most important muscle group for physical attractiveness in men or women. No matter the wonderful definition of arms or legs, if your gut is sagging, you have a problem!

There are other reasons, but one of the best is the fact that of all body parts, the abs tend to be the least favorite body part to work. They’re hard! That reason alone should be enough to motivate you: anything other people don’t like working is a golden opportunity for you!

But how can you do anything useful in just five minutes? One daily approach is to perform five minutes of the toughest ab exercises you can find, and a fantastic tool for this is a “Roller Wheel” available for five dollars at any sporting goods store. Not the fancy ones, just the simple get-on-your-knees variety. Try this: perform one rep, and take a breath. Then do two reps, and take two breaths. Then three, and take three breaths…and so on until you can’t go any higher. Then, drop back to one rep, and start climbing again. When that gets easy, take one breath for every two reps.

An even better method is to break up your exercise into multiple daily sessions. The roller wheel is useful here as well, but you might want to investigate some of the powerful “Vacuum” exercises from yoga, or the dynamic-tension style “stomach flattening” exercises. In these, you exhale all air, and flex the abdominal muscles for several seconds. Believe me, if you do these properly, even without aerobic exercise your waistline will decrease!

While there is no serious disagreement that longer sessions produce better, and more balanced results, the busiest man or woman on earth can find five minutes a day…and sometimes, that toehold is what it takes to get you started on a new, healthier lifestyle.

What Is Acne - A Brief Users Guide For Parents, Teens And The Rest Of Us.

Acne is a disease in which the hair follicles on your skin become clogged and infected. This results in one of the three types of acne lesions to form.

The production of excess sebum is the culprit. It causes the follicles to become blocked. The medical community is still uncertain as to what triggers this excess production. Sebum is produced by the sebaceous oil gland and everybody needs a small amount to achieve healthy skin. Sebum helps protects the skin from harmful bacteria by washing it away.

Types of Acne Lesions:

The three types of acne lesions are whiteheads & blackheads (also known as closed and open comedones respectively), papules & pustules, and cysts.

Whiteheads as the name suggests, look like white bumps. They form under the skin and never reach the surface. This makes them very hard to eliminate. Blackheads grow upward and break the skins surface. This enlarged follicle and the oxidation of the dead cells, sebum, and bacteria have a black color, hence the name.

Papules form when a whitehead burst and the bacteria spreads to the surrounding tissues under the skin. This causes your body’s immune system to increase its fight on the infection making the inflammation worse. They appear as small, firm, red bumps. Pustules form as the body’s immune system continues to fight the infection by sending pus to the area. They appear similar to a papules with the addition of a yellowish white head.

Cysts are the third and final type of acne lesion. They form when a pustule worsens and expands further down under the skins surface. They appear red or purple and are very painful. This is the most serious of all types of acne lesions.

Types of Acne:

Acne can not only be classified by the types of acne lesions, but further broken down by acne type; depending on what types of lesions you have. People whose acne consists of whiteheads and blackheads would have what is called comedonal acne. A mix of blackheads, whiteheads, papules and pustules acne lesions is called acne vulgaris and is the most common type of acne. The third type of acne is called cystic acne and it is when someone has all three types of acne lesions with numerous cysts.

Who Can Get Acne:

While most people associate acne with teens, anybody can experience some type of acne at any age. That said certain groups of people are more likely to experience acne. They include teens, people under stress, people who have a family history of the disease, people taking certain drugs and adult women.

Tips For Buying A Treadmill

Tips For Buying A Treadmill-Buy To Succeed

Among the best tips for buying a treadmill, the very best is to ‘buy to succeed’.

Whether you’re in fitness training or just want to feel fit, the correct equipment is the treadmill you will USE.

But which type of user are you?

Quality Is About You

If you’re a runner, you may need a treadmill with a longer running surface and a quality frame, and a more powerful motor with faster speed.

High-quality engineering will lessen wear-and-tear and need of repair. Quality programming features may be a good choice to measure your training.

Expect to pay considerably more for all of these equipment features.

Many users, though, purchase a treadmill, online or locally, for fitness and good health.

If this type describes you, your choice of treadmill will be different.

Still, review your own needs.

What is your weight? Your treadmill will have to carry it. Do you exercise often? Do you need an electronic display to tell you how you’re doing? How much quality can you afford?

Review all of these things about yourself, read equipment reviews online, and only then shop around to suit your own fitness goals.

And that’s number three on the list of tips: shop around.

Shopping online is convenient and offers a wide choice of equipment, but shipping may be to the curb and, if your unhappy with your choice, returning the treadmill can be costly.

Local dealers may negotiate and provide immediate service, but online companies often offer excellent bargains.

And look for a quality company warranty, especially for low-end equipment. After all, the idea behind any exercise equipment is that it takes a beating, not you–or your wallet.

In the end, your chances of achieving fitness and good health are all up to you, so take a good hard look at yourself, then buy to succeed.

The Hidden Secrets to Weight Loss After Pregnancy

The Hidden Secrets to Weight Loss After Pregnancy

Sarah is a pregnant mother of three who continues to breast-feed her 18-month-old. After each of her pregnancies, she has had difficulty losing weight. With all of her responsibilities, weight loss isn’t a priority. Still, she wishes that, once this pregnancy is over, she will be able to return to her pre-marriage weight.

The average woman gains more than 25 pounds during her pregnancy. The procedure of childbirth may result in a weight loss of up to 14 pounds, which means that new moms still have considerable weight to lose once they leave the hospital. However, some women simply assume that this “baby fat” will never go away. Yet, it is entirely possible to lose weight during the post-partum period.

A number of medical experts recommend easing into a weight loss program after the birth of your baby. This means that you will not start dieting until about three months following birth. You should combine a low-fat diet with moderate exercise in order to achieve weight loss.

Don’t expect instant results. It will take you a good nine months to get back to your weight prior to pregnancy. A go-slow approach is best because you need to give your body time to recover after childbirth. Certainly, you might be able to lose weight faster, but you might be sacrificing valuable nutrients as a result.

Interestingly enough, breastfeeding actually enhances weight loss. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists has found that breastfeeding leads to the release of hormones which enable your uterus to return to its normal size. However, breastfeeding alone won’t bring down your weight. You need to combine it with a sensible diet and a moderate exercise program. Keep in mind that you need to have at least 1800 calories a day while breastfeeding in order to keep yourself and your baby healthy. Still, stay clear of junk food during this period. You should rely on food with high nutritional value to maintain the proper level of calories each day.

There are many good reasons to exercise during the post-partum period. In addition to helping to accelerate weight reduction, exercise can help alleviate post-partum depression, improve your mood, and boost your confidence. Exercise can also “clear your head” so that you’re better able to meet the demands of motherhood. You might consider joining a “Mommy and Me” exercise class so that your baby can exercise right along with you. Another helpful hint is to enlist the help of a friend or relative to act as your exercise buddy so that you’ll have some emotional support while exercising. An added bonus of exercise is that it should boost your energy level, which is quite important when battling the fatigue which comes from caring for a newborn.

Your diet should generally be low-fat but not fat-free; vitamin rich; and high-fiber. Under no circumstances should you go on a fad diet. Such a diet could be quite harmful to your health and could actually slow your recovery from childbirth. It’s a good idea to set weight-loss goals, but don’t go overboard. Recognize that there’s a limit to the amount of weight you can lose during a given period of time.

You may see a number of actress-moms gracing the covers of magazines shortly after the birth of their children. They appear svelte and elegant, totally devoid of baby fat. In the accompanying article, they may even talk about exercising right after childbirth. Such articles send new mothers a dangerous message: that you must do all you can to become thin as quickly as possible after your baby is born. Such a philosophy is not only ridiculous, it’s also unhealthy. As a result, you’ll need to “tune out” such messages from the media and stay the course with your own gradual weight loss plan.

The time right after the birth of a child can be quite challenging, taxing both your physical and emotional strength. While it is certainly a good idea to eat healthy, you’ll need to pace yourself as far as weight loss is concerned. Over time, you should be able to lose the weight you gained during your pregnancy. In fact, you might find that you’re actually healthier after your baby is born.
